Being Rich is Overrated - Here's Why?

Being rich is overrated.

Ever wondered why every one of us thinks about being rich, millionaire, billionaire?

Don't you think if some people who achieve that richness in life are happy or not?

There are many questions that arrive in my mind when I think about being rich and if it will fulfil the void of happiness that we all search for.

In this article I am going to share with you the answer to the most asked question, Is being rich overrated or is it really worth it?

So without further ado, let's get started.

Why Being Rich is Overrated?

Why Being Rich is Overrated?

So, what do you mean by being rich? for many of us being rich is all about having money, luxury cars, mansion, women, so on and so forth, isn't it?

Yes, that's all we think when someone says that he/she is rich. If being rich can bring you everything that you ever desired so is it really overrated?

The truth is being rich is overrated and being happy is underrated. To understand this statement you just have to understand a law which comes from economics called The Law of Diminishing Marginal Utility.

So what does this law states?

This law states that everything being equal as more and more standard units or a commodity is consumed marginal utility derived from each additional unit must decline.

Which simply means that the more you have of something the less it makes you happy.

Let's understand this with an example, assume I give you your favourite expensive delicious pizza.

diminishing marginal utility

👉 The pizza has 6 perfect slices and you get so happy with the thought of eating it. You eat the first slice and you feel like you arrived heaven it satisfies you more than anything, you take another slice but feel less happy as it feels just good and with each additional slices, you treat it like a normal pizza and you realize that the 6th slice has nothing 'amazing' in it though it was the same slice you ate first.

I am sure this happens with each one of you reading this article, whether your growth in your career, the increase in the money in your bank account, the additional slice you eat, everything feels just ok when you have more of it just as the 6th slice of pizza we talked about.

The more money someone makes a point comes where no matter how expensive food he/she eats, destinations they visit or clothes they buy joy seems very little in comparison with the delight they felt before.

This same law not only applies to food, clothes, commodities, it also applies to money.

Everything becomes normal when you get more of it if you don't believe me then think about why you are not as happy as when you got your first paycheck?

So as now you have understood why the idea of being rich and having more money is overrated, let's find out if you should strive for it or not.

Should I Stop Pursuing My Desire Of Being Rich?

Being Rich is Overrated

No, I never said that you shouldn't desire money or freedom. Money indeed gives you freedom, it makes your dream come true, don't get me wrong.

I am just saying that if you reach or have reached a stage where you have a nice home to live in, food to eat and enough money to fulfil some of your dreams then you should be happy about it and stop stressing yourself to acquire more.

Acquiring more and more is certainly not going to make you happy.

You should ask yourself if today you become rich then what? yes, you will eat good, wear more fancy clothes, drive more luxurious cars, but then what? this is it?

You should not attach yourself with the desire for more money or being rich, you should start being happy with what you have.

You are alive today, reading this, you have enough money to buy food, to buy clothes and many more things. Happiness is never outside it's always inside.

Do you want to become a millionaire? No am not talking about the same common rich millionaire, let's find out how you can be a happy and satisfied millionaire.

How to Actually Become a Millionaire? - It's not about money

How to Actually Become a Millionaire

Do you know why someone is called a millionaire, billionaire, or rich? Not because of money indeed the reason is that we think if they have so much money they surely are happy more than we are.

But most of the times this is not true. happiness depends upon the mindset and not on the things.

Do not make the mistake to confuse happiness with being rich. Assigning your happiness to your desires of becoming a millionaire, to have a big mansion, to have a beautiful girl, because to attach your happiness to these things surely means that you are believing a false hope that you will surely become happy when you will get it.

But if everyone does it why all rich people are not dancing with bliss, joy, why actors are committing suicide, why celebrities are breaking up with their partners? why businessmen are bankrupt? Think about it.

If you truly want to be a millionaire then just stop attaching your self to the results, enjoy the process, meet new people, take a break from your monotony and spend time with your kids, parents, family, go out for a walk where you just observe the beauty of this world, do what you genuinely love, eat your favourite cuisine, take your wife on a date, go for a vacation.

The reason you are not happy is that you think you are not free, but the truth is you are not free because you are striving for something which you believe is going to fill you void.

Happiness is always found inside and never outside. If you believe you are happy with everything you got, then you will be happy but if you believe you will be happy when you will get this or that my friend you are lying to yourself.

Do not and I repeat do not assign your happiness with the hope of getting what you want but what you have and what you are.

If you don't learn how to be happy without money then there is no way being rich will teach you that. Do not blindly grow your bank account cherish everything you have in your life.

Being poor sucks and that's true but when you have enough to have a good life there is no sense to desire for more and more. You will not be able to enjoy anything(what you have and what you want) if you are blindly desiring happiness.

Conclusion

The truth is being rich is very overrated nowadays and no one is cherishing what they have instead of being grateful we all are becoming sad, depressed, and meaningless.

Life is not about achieving materialism, it is about living life with the people we love, enjoying small moments, being free, to be happy with everything God provides us with.

I should say that having money is overrated but living 'life' is underrated.
